Fallow

Designed in collaboration with artist Amy Joy Watson, the design looked to the connectivity provided by the past and the future, to metaphorically contrast the terrors and brutality of World War 1 with the beauty of future possibilities.

Initial ideas for the form of the project were inspired by hand-drawn trench maps from the Gallipoli campaign.

The work embraces a lineal water feature, with the water gently cascading over stepped rough-cut slate.

Uplights embedded in the water feature retaining wall illuminate the underside of the coreten form, while a single uplight in the centre of the Sapphire coloured anodised ribbon accentuates the knot that just touches the surface of the water.

The work also features a simplified trench map, sandblasted into the face of the retaining wall.
